Indian hair is usually dark brown or jet black with red undertones, and Indian skin tones are generally warm. The use of the highlight color depends on the color of your skin and eyes. Foil is used for long hair, and frosting is used for very short hair (for men). You can choose to highlight most (up to 60%) or only some (about 20%) of your hair, depending on the look you want to achieve. With proper technique, you should be able to see your hair in two tones blending seamlessly.
The color chosen for highlights is usually 2 or 3 levels below your base level. Brunette, red and mahogany shades go well with the Indian skin tone, and highlights make the hair look lighter and sophisticated. Highlighting techniques and areas also depend on the texture of your hair. If you have greys in your hair, then we first must cover the greys with a base color, followed by the highlights. This is called dual processing.
